Hi everyone, I made a death effect inspired from one of the generic death effects from the amazing game “Heroes Of the Storm” by Blizzard. Here is the complete step by step breakdown of the effect. Hopefully it would be helpful for all of you.
Generic Death FX (Heroes Of the Storm)
There are 11 emitters or layers in this effect. Five major groups are:
1. Streaky Flash
2. Hazy Core Bright Flash
3. Debris Blast
4. Floating Debris
1- Streaky Flash:
There are two elements here below in its first streaky texture like a death soul & its remaining part rectangular dots trail which follow the first element. The beam moves fast but I had to make sure it is visible long enough to show its upwards movement. Otherwise it almost looked like it was moving downwards into the center core
The center core is made of 3 layers. All layers have emissive blend mode to get the punchy glow at the core. In order to achieve the impact in the center, One of the layers uses a texture that has a long blue strip that gives the core its vertical edges. This gives the effect some vertical momentum.
3- Debris Blast:
There are 3 emitters of different colors, speed, multiple shapes that taken from a texture atlas & behaviors like a petal blast which dissolve nicely while still traveling in the air. These are high velocity particles that quickly slow down because of heavy drag but they do not come to a complete stop. Its important to keep the motion otherwise the outward flow of energy feels un-natural
5- Smoke as misty fill:
Smoke with center glow & color variation used to make a misty feel which stays till the end of the effect. It gives the effect a fuller look and keeps the energy and motion visible.
